Hair masks are a very important part of your hair care routine. I have often observed that only a few people do regular hair masking. A hair mask is important and beneficial for both men and women. Applying a hair mask once a week is as important as regular oiling. It will help you with your hair growth and also help you tackle your hair concerns.
Today I am going to tell you about 5 hair masks that will help in hair growth. These are natural hair growth home remedies. Hair growth doesn’t mean the regeneration of new hair, it means the growth of the existing hair. The process of Hair growth is slow. You will not see the results overnight. You have to give it some time to show results and have patience. You can see the results after applying a hair mask for at least 4 weeks.
Coconut oil
This is the easiest mask for hair growth. You just have to use one ingredient and i.e. coconut oil. Coconut oil is a miraculous and a very beneficial ingredient for your hair.
Requirement:
- 1-2 teaspoon of coconut oil
How to use: Take the coconut oil and heat it in a microwave or use a double boiler method. Apply it on your scalp and hair and keep it on for at least 1 hour. You can also keep it overnight. After applying make sure you massage your hair for at least 3-5 mins. Massaging will be a valuable addition to your hair growth.
Benefit: Coconut oil helps in healthy and faster hair growth and treats split ends. It is very moisturizing for your hair. It makes your hair stronger and reduces breakage.
Disclaimer: Do not use a lot of coconut oil on your hair. This can make your scalp more oily and increase the buildup of oil on your hair and scalp. The buildup can further lead to the accumulation of oil and dirt in your hair. Do not heat the oil by directly placing it on the stove. Using a double boiler method or microwave is the best option.

Onion juice + Castor oil + any oil
Onion juice, when mixed with castor oil, helps in hair growth. This mask requires time for preparation but is very beneficial so, you should give it a try.
Requirement:
- 4-5 teaspoons of onion oil
- 4-5 drops of castor oil
- ½ teaspoon of any regular oil (almond oil, coconut oil, etc.)
How to make: Grate one onion and extract the juice of the onion using a strainer. Add castor oil and your regular oil to the onion juice, and your hair mask is ready.
How to use: Mix all the ingredients well. Apply the mask on your scalp and keep it on for at least 30 mins. You can keep the mask for up to 4 hours if you can bear the smell of onion juice. Wear a shower cap if possible.
Benefit: Onion juice contains sulfur, which provides strong hair, thick hair, prevents hair loss, and promotes hair growth. It gives nourishment to dry and brittle hair. Coconut oil promotes healthy hair growth and reduces the breakage of your hair. Castor oil promotes hair growth and strengthens the roots.
Disclaimer: This will be a runny liquid hair mask, so make sure you wear old clothes while applying the mask. The smell of onion juice might be unbearable in that case, you can wash your hair immediately. Use the oils in limited quantities as they can cause an oil buildup in your scalp.
Apply this onion hair mask 1-2 times a week.
Coconut oil + Aloe Vera gel + Castor oil
Requirement:
- 2 teaspoons of Aloe Vera gel (Medium length hair)
- ½ teaspoon of coconut oil
- 2-3 drops of castor oil
How to use: Mix all the above-mentioned ingredients and make a paste. Apply it all over your hair and scalp and let it sit for 1 hour. Make sure you apply this mask evenly all over your hair including mid-lengths and ends.
Tip: You can use Aloe Vera gel as a post-wash hair mask. This will help to moisturize your hair. The steps are
- Wash your hair with a mild shampoo
- Apply 2-3 teaspoons of Aloe Vera gel on your hair and keep it on for 10-15 mins.
- Wash it off and apply conditioner
Benefit: Aloe Vera has cooling properties. It helps to calm the irritation of your scalp and make your scalp clean and a clean scalp promotes hair growth. Aloe Vera also improves the health of the hair follicles.
Disclaimer: It is best to use natural Aloe Vera from the plant. If you do not have the Aloe Vera plant at home, you can use a pure store-bought Aloe Vera gel. Do not use Aloe Vera gel as a pre-wash hair mask and post-wash hair mask on the same day.
You can apply the Aloe Vera mask once a week.
Coconut oil + Olive oil
Requirement:
- 1 teaspoon coconut oil
- 1 teaspoon olive oil
How to use: Mix the ingredients and heat the mixture using a microwave or double boiler method. Apply it on your scalp and hair, keep it for at least 1 hour or overnight.
Benefit: Coconut oil promotes hair growth, treats split ends, and reduces hair loss. Olive oil nourishes your scalp and strengthens the hair follicles.
Disclaimer: Use the optimum amount of oil in your hair. Do not apply excess that can cause oil buildup, and it can even make your scalp more oily and prone to dirt.
Use this mask twice a week.
Fenugreek seeds + Aloe Vera gel + Almond Oil
Requirement:
- 1 teaspoon of fenugreek seeds
- 1 teaspoon of Aloe Vera gel
- 1 teaspoon of almond oil
How to make: Soak the fenugreek seeds for 8 hours. After 8 hours, strain the water and grind the soaked fenugreek in the mixer grinder. You can add a little water while making a paste. Add both Aloe Vera gel and almond oil to the paste.
How to use: Apply the mixture on your scalp and then the hair lengths. The mask might fall so, it is better to wear a shower cap after the application. Keep it on your hair for an hour.
How to wash: The first step is to remove the hair mask using plain water and then apply the shampoo. Even after the hair wash, there might be some residue on the hair mask. After the hair is completely dried, some of the residues will directly come off. The remaining would come out if you rub or massage your scalp.
Benefit: Fenugreek is rich in iron and protein, which are necessary for hair growth. It helps to strengthen the hair and provide softness and shine to the hair. Aloe Vera helps to clean the scalp for better penetration of the nutrients. Almond oil has high amounts of vitamin E, which gives you a healthy scalp and makes your hair stronger.
Disclaimer: Do not keep the mask on your hair for more than 2 hours. Applying it for a longer time than recommended can make your hair dry.
You have to be consistent with applying a hair mask. Do not keep changing your hair mask every week. Stick to one hair mask and apply it for at least 2 – 3 weeks to get the best results. Choose the correct ingredient for your hair type. if you are consistent a hair mask can change your hair care game. My personal favorite hair mask is Aloe Vera, coconut oil, and castor oil mask because that gives me the perfect nourishment, and I know that is what my hair needs.
